Tasmanian Forest Operator Assessment and Licensing Scheme

ForestWorks Tasmania issues Tasmanian forest industry operator licenses and non-forest harvesting operator licenses to operators in Tasmania and the Northern Territory. These licenses were previously issued by the Tasmanian Forest Industries Training Board. ForestWorks administers an industry database, supports accredited assessors and manages forest industry standards and accreditation committees.

ForestWorks and Forest Operator Assessment & Licensing Scheme

The Forest Operator Assessment and Licensing Scheme was put in place by the industry to reduce the incidence of death or serious injury in the Tasmanian forest industries. It is also used by employers, industry and non-industry, to provide evidence that workers are trained to the appropriate standard in accordance with Section 19 (1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and to monitor the performance of their business against:

  • Work Health and Safety Act 2011 - Section 19 (3) (f) 
  • Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 - Regulation 39 
  • Work Health and Safety (Transitional) Regulations 2012 (TAS) - Regulation 60 (c) 
  • Forest Safety Code (Tasmania) 2007 - Section 3.9

Fire Skills - Training and Assessment Tools

ForestWorks Tasmania has developed a range of fire assessment tools, learner resources and PowerPoint presentations for three levels of Tasmanian Fire Assessment: Fire Weather Evaluation; Bushfire Awareness; and Wildfire Suppression. The project involved broad consultation with industry experts and the Tasmanian Forest Industry Fire Management Committee and was partially funded via the SET project.
