Tumut Forestry Careers Expo

11 December 2009, 3:41pm

Forestworks sponsored the Forestry Careers Expo held in Tumut TAFE campus on 26 November 2009. There were around 120 Year 8 and 9 students from McAuley Catholic Central School, Batlow Technical School, Tumbarumba High School, Gundagai High School and Tumut High School who participated in the event.

The local forest, wood, paper and timber products industry employs thousands of people every year and the expo is a great way to highlight the potential for careers within the industry.

The following industry leaders made brief presentations about employment opportunities and career pathways in the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry:Tumut expo

  • Forestworks
  • Visy
  • Forests NSW
  • TAFE
  • Carter Holt Harvey
  • Hyne
  • Norske Skog
  • Forest Industry Council
Kayla Skinner and Tim Parish both from Tumut High School were winners of an iPod Nano each for answer the maximum number of questions correctly at the end of the day. This event  gave students the opportunity to gain a greater insight into the various trades and professions available in the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry and is a good way to allow Year 8 and 9 students to start thinking about a career in this industry as they start making decisions about their future.
