Plant the seed ExpoForestWorks NSW participated in the ‘Plant the SEED’ (Sustainable Education and Employment Day) event held in Sydney on Friday the 20 November 2009. The event was targeted at young people, and those working with them, and teaching and careers staff.

The aim was to awaken interest in young people about the changing work environment, employment options and study pathways in the sustainable arena. Over 300 students from Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 from schools in the St George and Sydney region, career advisors, universities, TAFE, employment agencies, Group Training and Industry Associations attended the event which was organised by the Career and Transition Support unit of Department of Education and Training NSW.

The expo provided a platform for industries to present sustainable jobs, careers for the future and further education opportunities to the students. ForestWorks gave a series of group presentations to students and career advisors informing them about the range of employment opportunities, training and career pathways available in the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry.

Based on feedback received from the expo evaluation forms completed by event attendees, the expo was a success; it was very informative, interactive and engaging.
