ForestWorks encourages enterprises to apply for Apprentice KickStart Bonus

ForestWorks is encouraging enterprises to take advantage of the government funded employer incentive program called the Apprentice Kickstart Bonus. In particular, we are encouraging employers of wood machinists (listed on the National Skills Needs List). The Apprentice KickStart bonus is designed to counteract the impact of the global recession and ensure young people (under 19 years of age) start and remain in traditional trade Australian Apprenticeships. Employers could be eligible for an extra $3,350 in funding for their apprentices. Learn More!

ForestWorks facilitates next Frame and Truss meeting

ForestWorks will be holding the next Frame and Truss working group meeting in the Melbourne ForestWorks offices on 8 February 2010. The participants will discuss the latest updates on the qualification structure and units of competency. The working group will also consider the final draft and next steps for endorsing the competency standards and qualification structure. Contact Michael Littlechild.

Have YOUR say!

ForestWorks documents the conditions and challenges that the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry is facing in order to provide meaningful intelligence to both industry and government. Our advice is formed throughout the year through meeting industry representatives. Members of the ForestWorks facilitated Skills Employment Council (SEC) will be sent a draft report in mid February for comment, with the next report due with government in February 2010 (the 2009 report is available here). If you wish to ensure your concerns or good news stories about workforce development have been captured by us, contact Jane Bartier.

2010 Minister's Awards for Excellence

The 2010 Minister's Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices will open in February 2010.  The Minister's Awards reward and recognise excellence demonstrated by employers in training Australian Apprentices in 22 regions across Australia. ForestWorks was instrumental in helping Fielder Plantation Services with their award win last year. If you would like to register your interest for the 2010 awards please contact us now!

Government support for existing workers in Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program

$25 million is being provided by the Australian Government for an Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program (EBPPP) for existing workers (2009-10). This program will provide up to 11,000 new training places. The objective of the EBPPP is to enable individual enterprises to increase their productivity by providing employees with opportunities to increase their skill and qualification levels. Learn More!

Report shows more job seekers in work after PPP training

A report released by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has highlighted the success of the Australian Government’s Productivity Places Program (PPP) in helping job seekers find employment. Learn More!

Melbourne University offers Forestry papers as single courses

Subjects offered within The University of Melbourne’s Master of Forest Ecosystem Science (MFES) may be taken as single subjects through the University’s Community Access Program (CAP). These subjects are offered as two week intensive teaching blocks. Learn More!
