First time forestry has representation in Awards

ForestWorks via its branches in Tasmania, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales assisted company representatives to submit 12 applications for the Minister’s Employer Excellence Awards on behalf of employers in the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry. This is the first time our industry will be represented in these particular awards and ForestWorks encourages all those unable to apply this year to contact ForestWorks for next year’s awards. Contact us now!

Review of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

IBSA has released a discussion paper on the review and proposed new model for the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This qualification or parts of it (units) are used by trainers across Australia, including workplace based trainers and assessors in our industry. ForestWorks has prepared a response to the review. A copy of the discussion paper and the dates for the workshops are available on the IBSA website.

ForestWorks participating in Sydney Career and Employment Expo

This Expo will be held in Sydney on 29-30 May 2009 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is Australia's largest national careers and employment event and is a platform for organisations to present real jobs, career pathways and further education opportunities to thousands of Australians. ForestWorks will be there promoting our industry to school leavers and job seekers. Click here to go to the expo website. Learn More!

ForestWorks Project identified Skill Set requirements

The Skills Sets project has identified potential new Skill Sets in the following sectors:

  • Timber drying - four Skill Sets have been identified.
  • Mechanical harvesting – 7/10 skill sets have been identified.

These Skill Sets will be posted on the ForestWorks website and emailed to stakeholders for feedback in the near future. Learn More!

Review of chainsaw competency units

Four units of competency related to the new national Chainsaw Users Manual (developed by ForestWorks with the assistance of industry experts) have been reviewed and updated. These draft units will be posted on the ForestWorks website and emailed to stakeholders for feedback in the near future.

Employability skills statements

ForestWorks is in the process of adding some new information to the industry Training Package. Eight employability skills statements are expected to be ready for industry to review and will be distributed for feedback by July 2009.

Forestworks establishes Frame and Truss Working Party

On behalf of industry, ForestWorks has established a national Frame and Truss Working Party to review the pathways for the frame and truss sector. The group will also examine how the job roles of estimators and detailers are currently incorporated in the FPI05 Forest and Forest Products Training Package. The working party will build on the excellent work carried out by Timber Queensland to date, and on the thinking and discussions occurring in other states on this issue. Learn More!

Training Package feedback - have your say!

Projects currently available for feedback on the ForestWorks website include:

  • Updated imported units in the FPI05 Training Package.
  • Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Training Package Review – version one of some units of competency.

Pulp and Paper Communiqué informs on latest developments

The Communiqué provides up-to-date information on developments with the Review of the Pulp & Paper Manufacturing Industry Training Package. Learn More!
