ForestWorks advocates strengthened industry role

ForestWorks ISC has met twice with members of the Skills Australia Board to discuss the current governance framework of the national vocational education and training (VET) system. ForestWorks is advocating that there should be a strengthened role for industry to ensure standards of skills meet industry needs.

ISCs to work with COAG on skills and workforce development issues

ForestWorks and other ISCs will meet with Chris Eccles the Chair of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Working Group on the Productivity Agenda Education, Skills, Training and Early Childhood Development in October. The November Skills Update will provide more information on the outcomes of this meeting.

ForestWorks response to the future governance of the VET system

ForestWorks has submitted a response to Skills Australia’s on the ‘Future Governance of the National Vocational Education and Training System’ discussion paper. ForestWorks believes that government must clarify the governance framework so that the roles and responsibilities of the elements are clearly articulated to stakeholders.  For more information or a copy of this paper please contact jbartier@forestworks.com.au

Timber trainers and ForestWorks

Forestworks will be speaking to timber industry trainers in late October at the Australian Timber Trainers Association workshop. ForestWorks will advise trainers about the implications of climate change for the industry, skills standards and qualifications, ForestWorks ISC role and how timber trainers can contribute to industry skill efforts.  For more information regarding the workshop please visit the ForestWorks website.

Supervisor workshops

ForestWorks has co-ordinated a number of Workshops for supervisors in our industry in NSW to assist them with their supervisory skill development. The workshops are funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training. For more information please visit the ForestWorks website’s events calendar here.

ForestWorks working with TCA is involved in extensive career promotional activities in many states and regions.  However it is very difficult to sell careers in the industry to potential employees if the jobs are in evidence.  So if you have a job vacancy, please list it online.
