An opportunity to ensure ABS gathers better data about our industry

ForestWorks has recently made a submission to the minor review of Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). ForestWorks’ aim is to ensure that the minor review will enable a better reflection of the job roles undertaken in our industry and provide more useful data for government to use in making future funding decisions. If you would like a copy of the submission please contact Jane Bartier at ForestWorks on jbartier@forestworks.com.au

NSW careers advisors given careers resource

ForestWorks provided career advisors from over 20 NSW High Schools with copies of the ‘Grow Your Career’ postcards and DVD (that captures the information and resources available on the website http://www.growyourcareer.com.au) to distribute to jobseekers.

Both the website and the DVD provide comprehensive information on careers, training, pathways to skills development and employment opportunities in the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry.

The website and the DVD were developed by ForestWorks with the assistance of funding provided by the New South Wales Government Department of Education and Training. The DVD and website will enable careers advisors to encourage young people to choose a career in our ever changing industry.

Smart Start – ForestWorks helps school leavers see the wood through the trees

ForestWorks recently published a two page article in the Smart Start magazine aimed at getting school leavers interested in working in our industry. You can obtain a copy of this publication from http://www.smartstartmagazine.com.au

Smart Start is an annual independent magazine that helps senior high school students, their parents and career advisors make sense of the thousands of career and education choices available.

15,000 copies of Smart Start are distributed nationally each year to senior school students, career advisors in schools and selected learning institutes, principals and parents.

You said it – thanks for providing feedback!

As the Industry Skills Council (ISC) for the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry, ForestWorks provides to Government an annual Industry Scan on the forest, wood, paper and timber products industry.

These Scans gather industry intelligence on skills supply and demand, workforce development priorities, analysis of implementation of the current National Industry Skills Standards and Qualifications and recommendations for changes to these, through a three year Continuous Improvement Plan.

They also drive the development and improvement of ForestWorks training packages and inform our future priorities on behalf of the forest, wood, paper and timber product industry. We wish to thank all those who contributed comments on these documents. The next review of these reports will be in February 2009.

Do you have a job but no one to fill it? Then post your job online for FREE!

An important feature of the ForestWorks website is the 'advertise a job' feature. This enables anyone seeking a career in our industry the means to be able to view all vacant positions online and in one place.

Have your say - on our ‘Issues Register’!

ForestWorks ‘Issues Register’ is where you can have your say and help improve the FPP01 Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Training Package and the FPI05 Forest and Forest Products Training Package.
